Did you know that delaying dental care can destroy long-term health?0

February is Children’s Dental Health Month, something that Baltimore dentist group Kool Smiles isn’t taking lightly this year. As an effort to provide care for uninsured children, the dentist office will give free services for children on Feb. 22, during an initiative called ‘Kool Smiles’ “Sharing Smiles” Free Care Day.’
“While Kool Smiles is proud to provide quality, affordable dental care to families with various forms of insurance, including Medicaid, we also recognize that there are many children in our community who have no insurance and whose families cannot afford regular trips to the dentist,” said Dr. Todd Nichols, managing dental director at Kool Smiles.
Unfortunately, many children are left untreated, which leads to pain, tooth decay, and results in infections. More and more studies are showing that neglect of dental care can lead to much more serious health problems that can even be life-threatening.
“Children who do not have regular access to a dentist often exhibit advanced dental decay and their treatment needs are significant,” Dr. Nichols said. “We want to put a smile back on the faces of these children by getting them the dental care they need but cannot afford.”
On Feb. 22, children in the Baltimore area up to the age of 18 are eligible to receive dental care from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kool Smiles location of 2429 Frederick Ave.
The dental group will be offering dental exams, limited emergency care, extractions, fillings, baby tooth root canals, and crowns during the initiative. Treatment will be available on a first come, first serve basis. The extent of service eligibility will be determined at the time of the visit by the dentist.
The initiative is limited to children who hold no form of insurance so that the practice can reach the greatest amount of Baltimore children in need.
According to the practice’s website, “Kool Smiles was founded in 2002 and was built on the belief that every family has the right to quality dental care in a clean, safe and fun environment. Our first goal is to provide quality and compliant dental care to individuals in communities that typically get overlooked by general dentists.”
