Bobbi Kristina is out of her coma, but brain damage is irreversible

Bobbi Kristina Brown’s brain damage is irreversible, according to information released by her grandmother, Cissy Houston. She visited Bobbi Kristina on Monday and revealed that the 22-year-old is out of the medically-induced comma, although she still remains unresponsive.

“Meeting with the doctors and understanding that she can live in this condition for a lifetime truly saddens me,” the grandmother said.

Her comments differ from Bobby Brown’s, who claimed that Bobbi Kristina is off life support and is somehow responsive.

“I can say today, Bobbi is awake. She’s watching me,” Brown said of his daughter to an audience at Dallas’ Verizon Theatre.

“I have just returned from visiting my granddaughter Bobbi Kristina in the hospital, and while she is no longer in a medically-induced coma, she has a tracheotomy, and according to the doctors she has global and irreversible brain damage and remains unresponsive,” said Houston.

The grandmother grimly stated that everything should be left to God and that she is hoping for a miracle.

“We can only trust in God for a miracle at this time. Keep us in your prayers,” she said.

An unnamed source familiar with Bobbi Kristina’s condition supported Houston’s comment, saying that she is still in the same neurological condition she’s been in for about 3 months. She has remained unresponsive to familiar voices or visitors, and her eyes too don’t follow anyone’s movements.

Brown’s family attorney issued a statement on Monday saying that although his daughter’s condition has changed for the better, it isn’t clear what kind of life she’ll lead.

“Doctors have indicated that she will have a long life,” attorney Christopher Brown said. “However, Bobbi Kristina is presently embarking on a rehabilitation process, and the quality of her life will not be known for years to come.”

“She has made it out of ICU, opened her eyes and started a rehabilitation that will be long and hard,” said Brown’s wife, Alicia Etheredge-Brown.

Bobbi Kristina was found unresponsive in her bathtub on Jan. 30, and to date, the level of her injury hasn’t been ascertained, but it’s been established that she’s suffering from irreversible global brain damage. It has also not been revealed what exactly caused her to pass out in the tub, but Georgia law enforcement officials have stated that they are treating Bobbi Kristina’s situation as a criminal case.

Bobbi Kristina’s mother, Whitney Houston, was also found dead in her bathtub. Her death was treated as an accident.
