Beyoncé: ‘Women have to take time to focus on our mental health’

In a rare interview with Elle, Beyoncé is finally talking — about her new business, mental health, feminism and more.

We got our first preview of the interview Tuesday morning, with excerpts — and some amazing Flashdance-esque photos — published online ahead of the full spread, which appears “on newsstands in select cities starting April 6, and nationwide on April 19.”

In the first look, Beyonce discusses the dangers of perfectionism, especially how it relates to women. “It’s not about perfection. It’s about purpose,” she said in the interview. “We have to care about our bodies and what we put in them. Women have to take the time to focus on our mental health—take time for self, for the spiritual, without feeling guilty or selfish.”

She also divulged more details about Ivy Park, her new athleisure line that she unveiled last week. Turns out, it’s not named after any specific park — so we can assume that “Ivy,” which is also her daughter Blue’s middle name, is yet another reference to her favorite number, 4. (Think roman numerals.)

“I called it Ivy Park because a park is our commonality,” she said. “We can all go there; we’re all welcomed. It’s anywhere we create for ourselves. For me, it’s the place that my drive comes from. I think we all have that place we go to when we need to fight through something, set our goals and accomplish them.”

Ivy Park goes onsale April 14 at Topshop, Nordstrom and Net-a-Porter.
